What is written

but the seventh day is a Sabbath to Yahuah your Elohim. You shall not do any work in it, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your livestock, nor your stranger who is within your gates;

The practical question

A garden can wait a day. A dairy animal cannot, and neither can water in August.

Notice that both texts name the livestock explicitly. The rest is for the animals too, not merely a restriction on the household. That is the frame the practical questions sit inside: milking, watering, feeding, moving stock off bad ground, an animal in labour, a predator in the night, a fence down in a storm.
